I'll take a pic of mine and post it up but remember its a 32 spline output shaft that goes straight thru to the 205. My adapter housing is bolted to the 205 but you should still be able to see what I'm talking about. You may have to cut the shaft down to fit so see how long those splines are or you could just tear down the TH400 and put the 32 spline tail shaft in it's not that hard of a job, you would gain alot of strength, you already have the parts you need to do the job and you could freshen up the trans while your at it. Good luck with the vacuum setup I would scrap that idea and twin stick the 205.

so a manual 205 would or could work on this set up.... hummm. a friend has a 205 from a manual maybe i can finger f it and see if it would work . now i was noticing that the output comes out from the trans is a good 6in long with the the adapter plate still on trans. wonder if that shaft would be too long to spline into the 205. their is also a support bearing in the adapter plate on the ouput. would it still work if i changed adapter plate and took bearing out? or would it be a time bomb if the case were to work with out changing the output shaft. im learning alot of things by just seeing if they work together but its nice to ask someone . so i have just took the adapter plate off trans and resealred it. put t-case in and did trans service. im trying to get the stock vacume set up working. i made sure the actuatior workd free on the case , have to get vacum to it and see what it does..    any more info would be nice . just want 2wd and low range is that to much to ask??? haha

I was talking with a few people and found out that yes GM made a TH400 with a round bell housing for AMC motors thats my bad. The input your looking for, the 10 spline input shaft for the NP205, can be found in a manual trans application. Most likely it will be a spud shaft setup to go from the trans thru your adapter housing and to the transfercase. Look for any manual trans 3\4 or 1 ton 4X4 chevy, ford or dodge truck and you should have the shaft your looking for. I thru out the small 10 spline input crap otherwise I could give you one. The bolt pattern I was talking about is on the transfer your 4 bolt pattern is the adapter housing to the tail of the TH400. Sorry for the BS on the TH400 but I have only seen 32 spline outputs on TH400's a 10 spline is a new one for me.

my output is a 10 spline shaft and it is a th400 every book and place iv asked saids it is.... saids division of gmc on the pan. im some of my research finding that gm made a th400 with a mopar bell housing. the t-case has only 4 bolts that bolt to the adapter plate. thes did come with dana 20 t-case but only up til 1973. so either i just put it back together  and rock it in full time or put a tbi 350 in it and get it over with.... another delema is can i permitly lock it in 4x4 by making it stay in 4x4 and just unlock my hubs to get 2wd or will it burn the case up??? it has a vacume actuator on t-case to lock the center of t-case to actually make it 4wd and not quardra trac.. every wheeler i seen that was a fsj has a chevy 350 in it .... probly why they do that so makes drive train set up easyer

Is your x-fer input 32 spline or 23?? Do you have a 6 bolt round or the funny looking figure 8 mount on the x-fer. All the chevy's are the figure 8 style with an adapter to the trans only the fords's and jeeps are the round style. All TH400's are 32 spline inputs but from what you are saying with the 1/2 ton apps makes me question the output spline count and if you actually have a TH400 it actually sounds like you have a TF727. If your x-fer is indeed a round style mount and your trans has a 23 spline output then finding the input for the x-fer is easy but you need to know what the trans is for sure. Can you take a pic of both the original trans and the newer 205 transfer. I have a few diiferent inputs for 205's that your more than welcome to but we need to find out exactly what you have.

trying to swap in the 1987 th400 and 205 that i have . fsj has a th400 and junk stock full time t-case ( no low range). on the old 400 the bellhousing is rounded and the starter mounts in the bellhouseing. the newer th400 is the chevy style and the bellhousing is more triangle shaped and starter mounts to the engine . i cant just put the 205 on the old style trany the output shaft is diff. was trying to avoid to take them apart and swap output shafts even if they would be the same and try and do it... anyway im looking for a 1979 th400/ 205 info, or set up out of a chevy 1/2 ton of that year.any info would be nice to see if the bellhousings were the same on the older models.

got my th400 set to swap in or what i thought would just go in. found that the bellhousing is different all together and where the starter mounts is in the bellhousing on the old one ,the  new (to me) one would be the chevy style that would bolt to the engine. i need a 79' th400 . sux . it dont look like a tf 727 tranny because the trany has the right oil pan and is a th400. wouldnt happen to know anyone that has a old th400 and 205 do you?Huh?

leaf springs baby!   I used to have this book called Racing by the Numbers by Carroll Smith or something like that which was basically and engineering book on how to properly design and set up all types of suspensions (for race cars at least).  I'll see if I can dig it up.

No wonder I was in three wheel peel at the end of the day.  Better than braking the axle.
