What are you cooking up now?  73-77.5 fords would be your best bet for finding one.  They would be a NP205 and weight about 200lbs.

I was toying w/ the idea of converting my father's 2WD '83 chevy pickp to 4WD.  I'm trying to get a rough idea of price.

I have a TH400 and married 205 combo that would work its out of a 82 chevy k20 that had a 350. I was going to use it for the jeepster but found a Dana 300 that will work better. I can tell you that converting the 1ton 2wd chassis to 4wd is a bolt on thing. We did this to my fathers 1ton dump cause he got sick of getting stuck. We found wrecked 1ton 4x4 for cheap and just unbolted everything we needed and bolted it up to the 2wd chassis. The added bonus was the 454 that comes with the 4wd cause the 2wd 1tons have a 350. I don't know why chevy would put such a small engine in a 1ton truck its like the 4cyl in the jeep WTF were they thinking. BTW I should have your quote today.
